2015 Harwich shellfishing licenses on sale Dec. 15

The Town of Harwich announced recently that 2015 shellfishing licenses will go on sale Monday, December 15. The 2015 licenses will be available for purchase at the Natural Resources Office at Saquatucket Harbor on Route 28 in Harwichport. The office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The following types of annual licenses are available from the Town of Harwich: resident family ($20), non-resident family ($60), one-day non-resident ($20) and resident senior citizen 65+ ($6). Senior permits are not for family use. There is a $2 fee to replace any lost license. Costs have not increased from last year.

According to the 2013 Harwich Town Report, a total of 433 shellfish permits were sold (244 resident family, 28 non-resident family, 6 commercial, 108 seniors and 47 one-day non-resident. Numbers for 2014 are not yet available.

Before shellfishing, it is important to consult the Natural Resources Office about closures and availability. As of December 1, shellfishing is permitted on Wednesday, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, but only in specific areas. See the most recent list here.
