The Town of Harwich will host its first ever community-wide read in February. During "Harwich Reads: Growing Our Community", two books will be read, according to a release from the Brooks Free Library.
To kick-off "Harwich Reads: Growing Our Community", Donna Wood Eaton will speak at the library on February 7 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Eaton is the owner of Cedar Spring Herb Farm in Harwich and a Cape Cod Buy Fresh Buy Local member. She will speak about sustainable communities and what can be done on a personal level.
The library in partnership with the town's conservation department and gardening groups will host other gardening and sustainability programs during the community read.
In June 2014, the Cape Cod Food Hub helped the Brooks Free Library establish a seed lending library. Seed libraries are one of many ways a community can increase its sustainability. Cape Cod Food Hub also assisted with the opening of a seed lending library at the Sturgis Library in Barnstable Village.
Official kick-off information and events will be announced soon.
The Brooks Free Library is at 739 Main Street in Harwich.
