James Costello sentenced to 15 years for 2011 Provincetown campground death

After pleading guilty in Barnstable Superior Court, Judge Gary A. Nickerson sentenced Costello to fifteen years to fifteen years and one day in state prison according to DA O'Keefe's Office.Cape & Islands District Attorney Michael O'Keefe announced today that 46-year-old James Costello of Taunton pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the death of David Walton.  On Sunday, April 3, 2011, Walton's body was found at the Coastal Acres Campground in Provincetown. Walton's death was a result of an altercation with Costello.

Costello was arrested on April 4, 2011 and charged with domestic assault and battery and assault and battery with with a dangerous weapon (a shod foot).  When Walton's body was found the day before, Costello was found next to him.  When authorities were unable to rouse Costello, he was taken to Cape Cod Hospital.

The two men shared a home in Taunton prior to the incident.

Assistant District Attorney Lisa Edmonds prosecuted the case for the Commonwealth.
