Barbara Williams Baker

Barbara was the wife of the late Walter Baker. She was surrounded by her family during her brief illness and passed away Tuesday, April 5th, 2016. She is survived by her children: David Baker (Kathy), Sylvia Baker Matthews (Cam), Walter Baker, III (Fran) and her "son" Michael Demsky; grandchildren: David Baker, Jr., Ian Baker, Tara Fletcher, Katherine Partin, Walter Baker, Ben Baker and Josh Baker; fourteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Barbara was predeceased by her son, John Baker.Barbara was born in Quincy, and came to the Cape as a young child. Her love of books brought her to become Librarian of Osterville Library. After retiring she lived in Lysander, NY for a few years before returning to Cape Cod. She touched many lives in her 91 years, and shared her home as an "Adult Foster Care" (special needs) provider until she was 85. She was also an accomplished artist - paintings of ships and boats were her favorite subject. Barbara cared for and so loved her family and friends. She was loved by many and will be missed by many. She was truly an amazing woman.Visiting hours will be Sunday, April 10th from 11am until 2pm at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home 160 West Main Street, Hyannis. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, April 11th at 11:30am at Our Lady of Victory Church, South Main Street, Centerville. Burial will take place immediately following at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.Donations may be made to the Centerville library.
