After a lengthy illness, Donald R. Grady, Sr., of Waquoit, Massachusetts, passed from this world on August 27, 2015 at the age of 75. Born April 7, 1940 to his pre-deceased parents William H. and Estelle Elizabeth (Kelley) Grady of Springfield, MA , Don leaves his wife of fifty-seven (57) years Mary M. (“Toni”) Grady and his two sons: Donald, Jr. and wife Wanda Taylor of Londonderry, NH; and Geoffrey S. Grady of Waquoit, MA. He also leaves three grandchildren who he adored: Caroline Suzanne Grady of New Orleans, LA, Patricia Lynn Grady of Denver, CO and Geoffrey Sean Grady of Amherst, MA. A devoted husband and caring father, his shrewd insight, quick wit, disarming sense of humor and compassionate heart will be missed by his family and friends as he finds his way to God.
Don had a brilliant business career in the Medical Diagnostics and Equipment industry. A graduate of Springfield Technical High School, Don attended the University of Connecticut where he studied pharmacy and chemistry. At UConn, he met Toni and embarked on a fifty-seven journey together. A self made salesman, Don served as Marketing Director and Vice President of Marketing for multiple companies, including Micromedic Systems, Advanced Magnetics and Ciba-Corning Diagnostics. His work allowed him to work closely with many scientists, hospitals and clinics around the country. Don won multiple sales contests in Medical Equipment sales, and received multiple awards for Sales and Marketing within his industry, and was a co-patent holder on several applications involving Medical Assay tests. In his retirement, he served on several Corporate Boards as a Director.
Don was one of six children. He leaves a large extended family, including his elder brother William G. Grady and wife Kathleen A. of Middletown, CT, his younger brother John T. Grady and wife Diane of Springfield, MA and his three Sisters-Kathleen Grady of Enfield, CT, Dorothy Grady of Coventry, CT and Estelle E. (Grady) Brunelle and husband Thomas of Middletown, NY. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who he cherished.
Don enjoyed multiple sports and outdoor activities, including golf, softball, boating and fishing. A master pianist, he had a deep and abiding love for Russian Composers to Elvis. He enjoyed many summers of camping in New Hampshire and Maine. He was a basketball coach in Foxborough, MA. Raised Roman Catholic, he also attended Waquoit Congregational Church. He was also beloved by his constant companions, miniature Schnauzers named after current Red Sox shortstops. Above all, his enduring love was his wife Toni, with whom he built a stable and caring foundation for all to see, admire and emulate.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Chapman, Coleman & Gleason, 74 Algonquin Avenue at Rt. 151, Mashpee, MA 02649. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 3rd at Waquoit Congregational Church at the corner of Parsons Lane and Route 28 in Waquoit, followed by burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in Falmouth.
