Dorothy Whatmough, 78, better known as "Daisy", passed away on February 12, 2016 after a courageous battle with COPD & cancer. Dorothy was born on December 14, 1937 in Bridgeport, Connecticut to the late Dorothy & John R Brown. She was raised in Stratford, Connecticut, but spent her summers on Cape Cod at her family's home, where she eventually settled. She graduated from Bridgeport University with a degree in nursing and later at the CC community college for her EMT license.Her life was devoted to her family, community and passion for nursing.Daisy started her nursing career at Bridgeport Hospital in labor and delivery and orthopedic surgery. After settling on the Cape, she began working at CC Hospital in the emergency room. After leaving the hospital she was a charge nurse at Orleans Convalescent Retirement Center. She later joined the Orleans Fire Department and became a fire fighter, EMT and paramedic. She was also the nurse for the Orleans & Eastham town ambulance. Towards the end of her career she did both private duty and worked for Dr. John Padget of Orleans.Family was everything to her. Her endless love for her devoted husband and best friend, Clarence, was a true love story right out of the movie "The Notebook". She was a member of Allen Harbor Yacht Club in Harwichport, where she enjoyed boating and social activities with her family and friends. She cherished her family trips to the Royal Flamingo Villas in Deerfield Beach, Florida where she was surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Her passion for cooking and entertaining anywhere from 10-200 people was incredible creating countless memories.Dorothy is pre-deceased by her loving son, Ronald Evanko, and her cherished granddaughter Rhianon. She is survived by the love of her life, her husband Clarence Whatmough; her two daughters, Lynda Joy husband Peter, Lizabeth Harris Casty husband David, and her son John Ohmann wife Liz. She also leaves behind her step children Wayne Whatmough wife Marla, Lynne Borisoff husband Michael, Bryan Whatmough wife Cheryl, and Garyn Whatmough wife Rachael. She was the cherished grandmother of Michael wife Allyson, Stephanie, Christopher, Brittany, Samantha, Alexa, Greg, Tyler and great grandson Dylan. And she leaves behind her crazy yorkie, Baxter. She is survived by her sister Joan Mitola husband Edward, her brothers John Brown wife Karen, Richard Brown former wife Andrea, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.A Funeral Service in Daisy's memory will be held on Tuesday, February, 23, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the Orleans United Methodist Church, 73 Main St., Orleans followed by a committal service at Orleans Cemetery, Orleans.
