George W. Lonergan of West Yarmouth, formerly of Rockland passed away peacefully on March 1, 2016 after a period of declining health. He was the husband of the late Margaret A. “Peg” (Lynch) Lonergan.
He was the son of the late George W. & Mabel J. (Joubert). He was also predeceased by his sister Doris Kamuda of Mashpee and his brother Thomas J. Lonergan of Yarmouth. He was the father of G. William of Hanson, Mary J. of Yarmouth and Mark A. of Long Beach, CA. Loving grandfather of Matthew Clancy Jr. and Marissa Clancy of Yarmouth and Megan and Alison Lonergan. Leaves a close niece & nephew Anne Curley & Thomas J. Lonergan Jr. and several nieces & nephews.
George served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of Rockland High School and a lifelong resident of Rockland before moving to Yarmouth in 2001. He was a communicant of St. Pius X Church and St. Vincent DePaul Society.
George was very fond of Cape Abilities for all that they have done for his grandson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cape Abilities, 895 Mary Dunn Rd. Hyannis, MA 02601.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 4 at Morris, O’Connor & Blute Funeral Home, 58 Long Pond Dr. South Yarmouth at 9 am followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 am at St. Pius X Church in South Yarmouth.
