Helen M. McCaffery of Harwich Port died peacefully on Saturday, April 23, 2016, surrounded by loving family. She was 93 years old. Helen was born in Brooklyn and raised in Queens, NY. She graduated from Fordham University. She moved to Massachusetts as a young wife, where summer rental cottages in Harwich Port led to the purchase of a summer home, and eventually full-time residence. In 2010 she moved to The Melrose of Harwich Port. Helen’s abiding passion was her art. She painted in both oil and watercolor. As a member of the Guild of Harwich Artists her work hung in their gallery. In addition to her art Helen loved to cook, she was renowned for her wonderful pies and she loved to play bridge. Helen leaves her children; Rosemary, Matthew, Regina, and Joseph McCaffery, Celia Eslampour, Ann Marie Sessler, eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, her brother Thomas Bridges of San Diego, CA, and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at Morris, O’Connor & Blute Funeral Home, 678 Main St. Harwich Center on Friday, April 29 from 4-7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 30 at Holy Trinity Church, Route 28 in West Harwich. Burial will follow at Island Pond Cemetery, Harwich.
