EAST FALMOUTH - James H. Brewster Jr., 87, passed away quietly at Falmouth Hospital on Monday, January 25, 2016, due to complications of pneumonia. He was born November 8, 1928 in Attleboro MA the son of Dr. and Mrs. James H. Brewster.
He was a graduate of Attleboro High School (1946), Boston University (1948), and Babson College (1951) and he served in United States Army from 1951 to 1953 in the Army Security Agency.
He was employed by Xerox Corporation for over 30 years in Sales and Management, primarily in the Boston and Philadelphia area.
Jim was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and member of the Marine Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Falmouth MA. He was also a fund raiser for the Shiner’s Hospital for children. While he lived in Westborough, MA he was a member of the Westborough Civic Club and while living in Wellesley, MA he was the District Commissioner of the Westwell District of the Boy Scouts of America. He had also been an active member of the Rotary Club of Philadelphia during his time in Pennsylvania.
He was Vice President of the Boston University Alumni club of Cape Cod from 2002-2008 and he also he enjoyed sailing, skiing and woodworking.
He was a direct descendant (11th generation) of Elder William Brewster, religious leader of the Pilgrims. Jim was a member of the Mayflower Society and also the Elder William Brewster Society.
In June of 1954, he married his beloved, Elizabeth Virginia Cresswell at St. Barnabas Memorial Church in Falmouth. They were married for 55 Years until she passed in 2009.
He is survived by his son, James H. Brewster III and daughter-in-law Christine Brewster of Port Washington NY; three grandchildren, Melissa Struck, Elizabeth Brewster and Mark Brewster; his daughter, Cynthia Brewster-Keating and son-in-law, James Ralph Keating of Aiken SC; two sisters, Harriett Verheyan of Lockport, NY and Margaret Brewster of New York NY; and two nieces, and one nephew.
Visiting hours will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan 29th at the Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 584 West Falmouth Hwy (Rt. 28A), WEST FALMOUTH. A funeral service will be held at Noon on Saturday, Jan. 30th in the funeral home, followed by burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Jones Road, Falmouth.
