Joanne M. Mantia (Wessman) age 82 Bridgewater, MA died in her home in Bridgewater October 4, 2015. Joanne was born in Waltham, raised and educated in Norwell, daughter of the late Ernest O. and Grace M. (Underhill) Wessman. Joanne worked various waitressing jobs and worked 20+ years at New England Telephone in Braintree, She attended Massassoit Community College graduating with honors and an Associates degree at age 60. She was an avid quilter, enjoyed crafts and gathering with her friends weekly to work on projects for the church and those less fortunate, a member of Crosstown Quilters Guild, The Villages Quilting Guild (FL), St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Womans Club, a Card Club, and Telephone Worker Pioneers. Joanne was loved by all, an easy going, loving person with many friends, she enjoyed socializing and was always on the go. A snowbird; traveling to The Villages in Florida for the winter months. Among her greatest accomplishments were her 8 children, 14 Grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, sadly she was predeceased by her husband Anthony J. Mantia, Jr., her children John, Jeanne, Maryanne and Michael.
She is survived b y her children Dennis and his wife Patricia of Sturbridge, Petrea Roy and her husband Brian of Ludlow, Joseph and his wife Michele of East Bridgewater and Angela Gustin and her husband Richard of Bridgewater, her siblings Ernest Wessman, Dorothy LeClair, Petrea Moriarty, William Wessman and the late Robert and Jackie(John) Wessman.
Funeral from the Prophett-Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home 98 Bedford Street Thursday, October 8th at 9:00am. Funeral Mass in St. Thomas Aquinas Church Bridgewater at 10:00am.
Visiting hours Wednesday, October 7th from 4-8pm.
Burial in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery.
