FALMOUTH - John A Carroll passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on January 18, 2016.
John was born in Cambridge, MA on May 24, 1941 and grew up in Manchester by the Sea. John was the son of the late John A Carroll and Margaret Carroll (Coen).
John taught social studies in Falmouth for 42 years at the Intermediate and Lawrence School. John's passion for both history and teaching made him an inspirational teacher and self-proclaimed "Great Educator". John graduated Salem State College, then while raising a young family went on to Bridgewater College Masters Program and then obtained a C.A.G.S. Degree from Fitchburg State College.
John is survived by his loving wife Joyce Carroll of 52 years, his devoted children Bridget Carroll, Angela Shepherd, and John Carroll and his wife Karen Carroll. His adoring grandchildren Colby Shepherd, Myles Shepherd, Noah Shepherd, Eamon MacKilligan, Fiona MacKilligan, Maggie Carroll, and Grace Carroll. Brother of Myles Carroll, Sally Maloney, and the late Frank Wood, and many nieces and nephews.
John shared his love of nature, laughter, and the written word with his family and anyone that knew him. Ever young at heart, John was never happier than while leading a group of neighborhood kids in a great adventure or surfing the waves at Chappy on a wild and stormy day. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 PM on Friday, Jan 22 at the Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 584 West Falmouth Hwy, WEST FALMOUTH. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Saturday, Jan 23 at St. Patrick's Church, 511 Main Street, Falmouth.
