Joseph L. Cairns, Jr., 75, of Centerville, passed away on August 16, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Patricia (Murphy) Cairns.
Born in Hyannis, he was the son of the late Clara (Coleman) and Joseph L. Cairns, Sr. Joe graduated from Barnstable High School in 1957.
He retired from his job in the Town of Barnstable’s Engineering Office in 2002 after many years of service.
Joe loved his lifetime on Wequaquet Lake swimming, water skiing and boating. He also loved his Tuesday night bowling league and playing volleyball on Wednesday nights with friends.
Joe passed “his way”, peacefully at home after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
In addition to his wife Patricia, Joe is survived by his children; Joseph L. Cairns III and Jennifer A. Jansen, Sandra (Cairns) Dubé and her husband Alan Dubé, Peter E. Cairns and his wife Julie (Haley) Cairns, six grandchildren, Hayli, Allyson, Tyler, Shannon, Megan and Emily and one great grandchild Rosalie. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law from the Murphy Family and many cousins from the Dumont Family, as well as his lifelong friend Randy Childs and his wife Sue.
Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 8pm on Thursday, August 20th at the John-Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Road, Marstons Mills, MA.
A Funeral Mass will be at 10am on Friday at Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 So. Main Street, Centerville. Burial will follow in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Centerville.
