Joseph P. Curran, 88, of Mashpee, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2015. He was the husband of Margaret (Joseph) Curran and was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret (Skahill) Curran, and by his daughter, June Curran. He was born January 1, 1927 to the late James T. and Anna (Walsh) Curran.
In addition to his wife Margaret (Joseph) Curran, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Arthur and Marian Curran of Westwood, Ann and John O’Neil of Norton, Linda and Gary Newell of Saugus, Carol and Stephen Welch of Dedham; grandchildren; and great-granddaughters, nieces and nephews. He is also predeceased by his siblings, James Curran, Helen Curran, and Mary Cavanaugh.
Mr. Curran was a Navy veteran and a Boston Fire Fighter, retiring on disability at age 50. For many years he resided in Dedham and moved to Falmouth in 1979. He remarried and moved to Mashpee in 2003. He was an avid golfer, achieving 15 hole-in-one drives and several club championships of various levels at courses on and off Cape Cod. He enjoyed playing the piano and loved singing Irish songs.
Visiting hours will be from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday August 20, 2015, at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 74 Algonquin Ave. (at Route 151) MASHPEE. A reception for friends and family will be held at Christ the King Parish Hall from 9:00am to 9:45am on Friday August 21, 2015 before his funeral mass. A funeral mass will follow at 10:00am at Christ the King Church, 3 Jobs Fishing Road, Mashpee, followed by a burial at Brookdale Cemetery in Dedham at Approximately 12:30pm.
