Joyce Bush, 85, of Harwich, beloved wife of Alan "Dick" Bush and mother of three, died on Friday, April 15th in Harwich.Born in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late Noah and Mary Friedland and the sister of the late Harriet Friedland.Throughout her life, Joyce was an insatiable reader with broad interests and great curiosity. This helped take her to Radcliffe College, from which she graduated in 1952. Joyce was introduced to Alan through a blind MIT student to whom both read aloud. They married in 1952 and settled with their family first in Queens, NY, and then in White Plains, NY. There she had a long and satisfying career as a reference librarian at the White Plains Public Library, helping generations of students and adults with a broad range of research. She was also active in White Plains civic affairs. Joyce and Alan moved to Harwich, Massachusetts in 2000. Joyce worked as a volunteer at both the Chatham Library and at the Brooks Free Library in Harwich. She was long an active member of Am HaYam, the Cape Cod Havurah, where she also served on the board. In addition to her husband of 64 years, Joyce is survived by her three children, Amy, Marcy, and David, and by three treasured grandchildren, Joshua, Miriam and Emma.
