Lester C. Hamilton

Lester C. Hamilton, 83, longtime resident of East Bridgewater died peacefully on Sept. 8, 2015. Lester was the son of the late Edwin and Ethel (Haley) Hamilton and grew up in Nova Scotia. At age 18 he proudly joined the US Navy serving aboard the USS John W. Thomason during the Korean War. Upon his return he married Marilyn J. Brolin on July 28, 1956 and the two settled in East Bridgewater where they raised their three children. Les was a truck driver for AA Will for over 20 years, warehouse manager for Cape Way Plumbing & Heating, and also a warehouse manager for Goodings Plumbing Supplies for many years. After his retirement, Lester and Marilyn settled into their home at High Pond Estates in Bridgewater.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman who thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors with his family and friends. For over 60 years Les was the patriarch of the annual Berkshire hunting trip which he went on up until age 80. He also enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife, gardening, cooking, and being with his family. Les was a longtime member of the Puritan Masonic Lodge, VFW Whitman, and the Hanson Rod and Gun Club. Lester was the loving husband of Marilyn J. Hamilton of Bridgewater and devoted father of Karen J. Gomm and her husband Daniel of Halifax, David L. Hamilton and his wife Karen of West Wareham, and Steven S. Hamilton and his wife Sarah of Easton. Proud “Grampa” of 13 and “Great Grandpa” of 6 and brother of Clarence Hamilton and his wife Janet o Bridgewater, Robert Hamilton and his wife Jan of Halifax, and the late Edwin Hamilton.  Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, friends. Visitation will be held at the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. BRIDGEWATER, on Sun. Sept. 13 from 3-6pm (Masonic Service at 5:30pm). A Funeral Service will be held on Mon. Sept. 14 at 12:00 Noon at the East Bridgewater Union Congregational Church, 105 Pleasant St. East Bridgewater, followed by a burial with Military Honors at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
