Linda (Lou) Morrill Sayers, 72, of Falmouth, passed away peacefully at home early Monday morning, August 31, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. She was a resident of Falmouth for 43 years. She was the beloved wife of Robert A. Sayers for 50 years.
Linda was born in Melrose and graduated from Burbank Hospital School of Nursing in Fitchburg. She began her nursing career at Emerson Hospital in Concord, and retired after 43 years of nursing and service at Falmouth Hospital. Linda dedicated her life to maternal-child health. She was a clinical leader and maternity nurse who always believed in setting high standards for maternal care.
Linda developed a childbirth education program at Falmouth Hospital and was a fearless advocate for breast-feeding support services. She was a founding member of the Women’s Health Task Force, a founding member of the Postpartum Depression Task Force, and the Neonatal Resuscitation Program Coordinator. Linda was a nurse educator who shared her skills, knowledge and passions orienting new staff and serving as a tireless volunteer and role model throughout her career.
Linda enjoyed time with her family and she loved the beach. She had many hidden talents and was dedicated in the adventures of motherhood as a scout leader, a frozen-footed supporter of Falmouth Figure Skating Club and a volunteer for Falmouth Public Schools and athletics. She cherished and spoiled her six grandchildren who were her pride and joy.
Linda is survived by her husband, Robert; son Scott R. Sayers and wife Wendy J. Sayers of Holliston; daughter Elizabeth A. Sayers and wife Daryl B. Essensa of Greenfield; daughter Cari L. Kent and husband Jack S. Kent III of Duxbury; six grandchildren: Jake, Caroline, Henry and Gabe Kent, Abby and Emma Sayers; her beloved mother-in-law, Lucille Madden, age 97, of Flanders NJ; brothers and sisters in-law Leo and Kathy Sayers, Betty and Arnold Ciafardoni; and ten nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held 4-7 PM, Friday, September 4 at Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main St, FALMOUTH CENTER. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, September 5 at St. Barnabas Memorial Church, 91 Main St, Falmouth.
