Truro seeks three residents for SMART PAYT committee

Committee to determine feasibility of a pay-as-you-throw trash program

Earlier this month the Truro Selectmen voted to create an ad hoc SMART (save money and reduce trash) or PAYT (pay-as-you-throw) committee. Three members of the community are needed to form the new committee.

Committee members appointed by selectmen would be tasked with researching and determining the feasibility of a PAYT solid waste disposal system for the town and whether or not the model would be cost effective.

The committee would be required to present their findings to the selectmen no later than May 1, 2015.

Residents interested in applying must complete an application to serve on an appointed multi-member body, available here.

Only three other towns on the Cape (Wellfleet, Brewster and Sandwich) have a PAYT system in place. Mashpee held a public forum on October 15 to discuss switching to pay-as-you-throw. As in most towns, opinions were strongly divided. welcomes thoughtful comments and the varied opinions of our readers.
