Alleged online child predator arrested at Mashpee home

Multi-jurisdictional investigation began in October

MASHPEE - A multi-jurisdictional investigation into an alleged Cape-based child predator led to the arrest of a Mashpee man Tuesday. According to a Falmouth police release, Falmouth and Mashpee detectives arrested John S. Gray at his home at Summerwood Condominiums, 300 Falmouth Road in Mashpee around 12:15 p.m.

According to Falmouth Captain Brian Reed, his department was contacted by Halifax, Nova Scotia authorities in October. Halifax law enforcement suspected a Falmouth man of enticing a Halifax minor for sex. Falmouth police opened an investigation which quickly grew to include allegations in Plymouth and Mashpee as well as other states including Rhode Island, Arizona, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Ohio, police said.

Gray has been charged with possession of child pornography, distribution of child pornography and enticing a child under 16, police said. The Falmouth Police Department's investigation is ongoing and additional charges against Gray are expected.

All of the potential victims have yet to be identified, according to Capt. Reed.
