Adam Street in Bourne to go one way October 30

Two-way road will be closed, marked and reopened as a one way street on Friday

Adams Street in Bourne will soon be a one-way street. According to a release from the Bourne Police Department, the road will be closed on Friday for a short period and when it is reopened, it will be a one-way street. The change is being made to improve safety in the area.

At 7 a.m. on October 30 Adams Street will be closed to all traffic and Bourne Department of Public Works crews will remark and change the signage on the road. Later in the day Adams Street will reopen and only southbound travel (from Sandwich Road to Cranberry Highway) will be allowed. According to the release, vehicles exiting Canal View Apartments will only be allowed to turn right. Vehicles exiting Commonwealth Ave. will only be allowed to turn left.

Northbound traffic will be directed to use Ben Abbey Road. Greater use of the traffic signal at the intersection of Ben Abbey Road and Sandwich Road is expected to improve traffic safety, police said.

Following the conversion, all trucks will still be prohibited on Adams Street. Truck drivers must continue to use Ben Abbey Road.

Signboards in the area will alert motorists to the change. According to police, all major GPS data providers have been alerted to the change. In the event all GPS data has not been updated by October 30, motorists are encouraged to rely on signage in the area, rather than GPS right after the change has been made.

The roadwork on October 30 will be done weather-permitting. welcomes thoughtful comments and the varied opinions of our readers.
