Homeless Prevention Council's Backpack to School Program

Every kid should feel great on the first day of school...

From the Homeless Prevention Council:

When parents must focus their spending on things like rent, electricity, and food-- school supplies are not a priority. This often leaves lower-income kids unprepared for class and puts them at an academic disadvantage. That’s why the Homelessness Prevention Council created the Backpack to School program.

For 17 years, HPC has provided custom, age-appropriate backpacks and school supplies to over 1400 local kids. This year, we are partnering with the Nauset Rotary Club, who will be helping us give those kids new shoes as well. The Rotary Club has raised $5,000 to provide gift certificates to help parents purchase shoes to start the new year off on the right foot!

HPC is collecting donations to purchase additional supplies, backpacks and gift cards to various shoe stores.

If you would like to donate school supplies in lieu of money for gift cards, we always need more three-ring binders (1, 2, and 3-inch.) You can send or drop off donations to our office, at 14 Old Tote Road in Orleans, or bring donations directly to our Backpack to School Event, which will be happening in the Staples Plaza in Orleans until August 26.

For further information, please contact HPC at 508-255-9667. Thank you!
