From the Yarmouth Division of Natural Resources:

Lost Jogger Located in Wooded Area

On Thursday, August 15, 2019 Yarmouth Division of Natural Resources was notified by Yarmouth Police Dept. 911 Dispatch center of a disoriented and lost jogger.

The dispatch center was able to ping the GPS location of the last phone call and relay those coordinates to a Yarmouth DNR Field Supervisor. Using the last known coordinates the Field Supervisor was able to locate the lost person deep in a cedar swamp. The individual had ventured off the well defined main trail and got disoriented and lost within a cedar swamp surrounded by bull briar and thick vegetation. The Field Supervisor was able to safely guide the individual out of the woods where he was assessed and declined any medical treatment.

We use this opportunity to remind the public enjoying Yarmouth's conservation areas:

- Bring a sound making device with you if you plan on hiking in a wooded area.
- Make sure you tell someone where you're going - make a plan
- Have a fully charged cell phone.

Be safe and smart!
