My name is Marissa Osofsky and I am going into my sophomore year at Boston University where I am studying Finance and Information Systems. I live in New Jersey but decided to stay with my extended family on Cape Cod for the summer to pursue a finance internship at RogersGray Insurance.

During my first few days on Cape Cod, I was nervous about living and working in a completely new place, knowing almost no one. However, all the employees at RogersGray were so warm and welcoming that I soon became excited to go to work and learn more about the responsibilities my future career could possess. On a day to day basis, I worked with the finance department learning how to enter receipts, as well as completing more lengthy projects on the side. I was able to shadow members of the accounting team and then use what I learned to complete assignments. One of my favorite parts of the job was working with other interns in the company to create a webpage, and social media campaign highlighting the RogersGray summer internship program. Through our weekly meetings, I became close with the other interns and felt a strong sense of belonging within the company.

During my internship I learned more than I ever expected from reconciling accounts, to constructing business analysis reports. I was introduced to two different database systems and got to help with the month-end close. This internship allowed me to apply my academic knowledge to real world situations. I also gained a strong background understanding of insurance as RogersGray gave me detailed trainings on the industry. What I really enjoyed about RogersGray was their high emphasis on training and educating their employees in order to make them successful at their jobs.

Not only has my internship taught me the basics of accounting, but it also taught me important life skills involving problem solving, organization, teamwork, and time management. I can confidently say that my finance internship this summer has helped me grow as a student. When I go back to school in the fall, I feel that I will have a much better understanding in my classes because of the experience I had here. My internship at RogersGray was unlike any other internship I had before because it was extremely hands-on and allowed me to dive deeply into finance work.

For a few years now, I have known that I want to major in business but my internship at RogersGray has helped me to become more confident in my decision. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity RogersGray has given me because this experience has helped me further my career goals and confirm that this is the path I want to take. My finance internship has been a great learning experience for me and has allowed me to explore my potential. welcomes thoughtful comments and the varied opinions of our readers.
