On 9/14/19 at approximately 11:30AM, Yarmouth Division of Natural Resources was notified of a medical emergency aboard a 40’ sailing vessel 5mi south of Squaw Island.

Yarmouth DNR Patrol Boat J48 responded along with Hyannis Fire Boat M1 and Barnstable Harbormaster. Hyannis Fire and Yarmouth J48 arrived on scene and located the vessel. Hyannis Fire was able to transfer a medic aboard the vessel to render aid to the individual.

It was determined that two parties had fallen overboard. One had been retrieved from the water while the other was in for over 20min unable to be retrieved. Once the second individual was retrieved a possible medical condition developed.

Both were wearing life jackets.

Seas were 4’-6’ with winds gusting over 25Mph. Due to the conditions the sailing vessel was escorted back to Hyannis Yacht Club where an ambulance transferred the two men to the hospital in stable condition.

These two men survived because they were wearing lifejackets.
