Traffic Alert from Dennis Police - Old Bass River Road

Updated - Truck struck bridge, concrete feel on car, driver extricated...

Massachusetts State Police provided an update shortly after 8 p.m.  They report that a crane towed by a tractor trailer struck the bridge.  The debris struck a passing vehicle.  One person was transported to Cape Cod Hospital.

At the time of the State Police report, Route 6 traffic was diverted to Route 134.  The Old Bass River Road overpass in Dennis was closed completely pending a safety evaluation of the damaged overpass by an engineer.

Dennis Police issued the following statement at 6:30 p.m Friday evening:

"Due to a motor vehicle crash on Route 6 westbound at the Old Bass River Road overpass, that section of Old Bass River Road at the overpass will be closed until further notice. The crash involved a vehicle striking one of the overpass supports. Route 6 westbound traffic is being diverted off of Route 6 onto Route 134."

Police have not released information about the circumstances of the crash or status of vehicle occupants.
