Barnstable Police Statement on Two Route 28 Crashes

Two crashes within minutes. Man arrested for OUI Drugs...

From the Barnstable Police Department (verbatim):

On 1/26/20, at approximately 1328 hours, the Barnstable Police Department Dispatch Center received numerous 911 calls regarding a motor vehicle accident on Route 28 in the area of Straightway Rd. The callers reported that a pickup truck headed west had struck an SUV that was travelling east. Callers further reported that the operator of the pickup truck then fled the scene and continued travelling westbound on Falmouth Rd.

Within minutes, BPD Dispatch received additional calls reporting a second MVA at the intersection of Route 28 and Strawberry Hill Rd. Callers reported that a pickup truck had rear-ended several vehicles that were stopped at the red light. This collision caused one of the vehicles to be forced into the intersection, striking a vehicle that was in the intersection.

Route 28 was closed off in two areas for an extended period of time. As a result of this investigation, the operator of the pickup truck, Daniel Rodrigues, age 31, of West Barnstable, was arrested and charged with OUI Drugs, Operating to Endanger, and Leaving the Scene of an Acident with Personal Injury. This accident is under investigation by members of the BPD Traffic Division.
