Plymouth, MA - Plymouth Police report that James Hanna, prinicpal of Plymouth South High School, was arrested and charged with OUI, negligent operation and injury from mobile phone use following a Saturday night car crash.
A Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by Mr. Hanna apparently rear-ended a Kia sedan near Mayflower Food & Spirits on South Street.
Police say that Hanna admitted to drinking three beers before driving out to pick up a to-go food order. Police report he failed numerous sobriety tests.
Dr. Gary Maestas, Plymouth's Superintendent of Schools issued the following statement Monday:
The Plymouth Schools are aware of a DUI arrest of an employee within one of our schools. This is a personnel matter and will be addressed with the individual. The Plymouth Public Schools will proceed in the best interest of the students of the particular school within the community of Plymouth. A plan is being developed to address the short and long-term needs of the building and will be conveyed to the school community when available.
A passenger in the car struck by Mr. Hanna was transported to the hospital with neck pain.
