Best Restaurants In Brewster Massachusetts

11 Best Restaurants in Brewster Massachusetts

Starting to get hungry? Looking for a yummy dining experience in Brewster? Are you vacationing here? Or maybe you just moved here after buying a home in Brewster?

Well let me be your guide.

Brewster Massachusetts is known for its historic Mains Street and picturesque, charming atmosphere. As a child who used up many summer days begging to go to the Natural History Museum or the Brewster General Store to peruse the candy aisle, I’ve certainly spent my fair share of time in Brewster.

And yes, most of that time ended with eating.

Even now, as an adult, when I take myself to buy candy (kidding, sort of) I usually end up at a restaurant.

The level of cuisine in the town has only grown over time and there really are some of the best places on the Cape to eat in Brewster.

Check out this list below to find your next food destination in this lovely, scenic town!

1. Brewster Fish House

Brewster Fish House is a favorite spot of mine full of charm and delicious seafood cuisine. The restaurant is located off of 6A and sits inside a quaint cottage featuring upscale, creative dishes in an intimate yet stimulating environment.

Brewster Fish House

The fish house serves lunch and dinner Wednesday through Sunday, providing indoor, outdoor, and bar seating.

The seasonally-changing menu offerings promote fresh, local food prepared with sophistication and gorgeous presentation.

If you’re looking for a luscious starter for your meal, I suggest the fish chowder or lobster bisque, both of which are creamy and filled with flavor. The lobster bisque in particular is my favorite–I’ve never had a bisque so generously filled with pieces of actual lobster.

If you don’t feel like soup but still want to start with lobster, the homemade lobster rangoons are another delicious choice.

For your main course, the clam linguine with local littlenecks is a standout. Also, if the menu has the duck on it—please, please try it. I was blown away by how tender and flavorful the duck entree was, as well as the wagyu brisket.

It’s also good to note that there are daily specials and a changing dessert menu; if the creme brulee is available, I encourage you to try that if you aren’t too full!

I’ve found that the servers at Brewster Fish House are always attentive and knowledgeable, so if you’re struggling with what to order, ask your waiter or waitress for a recommendation–you won’t be disappointed!

The restaurant does consider itself an “adult” dining spot great for dates or other groups, but it can accommodate children if needed.

Additionally, even though Brewster Fish does not offer reservations, it does have call-ahead seating. I absolutely recommend using this service, as the place is quite small and thus has limited seating.

If you do end up having to wait a bit for a table, you can always hit up the bar and grab one of their signature cocktails (try the grapefruit Cosmo!) or craft beers.

Check out Brewster Fish House if you want a fine-dining-level meal with a relaxed, welcoming ambiance!

2. Spinnaker Restaurant

Spinnaker is arguably one of the most unique dining experiences one can have on the Cape. It is open for dinner Thursday through Sunday starting at 5 pm and serves a seasonally changing menu year-round.

Spinnaker Restaurant

Spinnaker has a chic, modern ambiance with minimal decor that adds to the restaurant’s charming atmosphere. There is seating inside within multiple dining rooms, giving space and privacy to each party, as well as outdoor tables on their beautiful, newly renovated patio.

The restaurant is owned and run by chef Rob and his wife Andrea, who have both proven to be extremely welcoming and hardworking. Many of the wonderful dishes are even inspired by their travels across Europe. The Italian inspiration is especially notable once you try the handmade pasta!

The service at Spinnaker is exceptional and the bartenders are warm and certainly know their craft when it comes to cocktails.

Every dish at Spinnaker is presented with precise detail and care.

Personally, I recommended your table split the ‘pillows and blankets which are described as lightly fried bits of aged parmesan wrapped in a prosciutto ‘blanket’ drizzled with balsamic–the definition of melt-in-your-mouth, literally.

The grilled octopus and the authentic Caesar salad are other amazing appetizers. While there are nightly specials, if you plan to stick to the entrees on the menu, the traditional Ragu Bolognese and Mediterranean-grilled whole fish are both absolutely delectable.

For dessert, the salted caramel brioche bread pudding is the perfect combination of salty, and sweet, and is topped with creamy vanilla gelato.

Lastly, while the menu might seemed more aimed at adults, I’ve seen children eat here and be greeted with nothing but warm welcomes, so I would definitely categorize Spinnaker as family-friendly.

Spinnaker is usually booked a month in advance, so make sure to make reservations far ahead of your visit!

3. JT’s Seafood Restaurant

JT’s is a modern-styled seafood shack perfect for a casual meal with family or friends. Open daily from 11 am to 8 pm, this spot offers lunch, dinner, ice cream, and take-out.

JT’s Seafood Restaurant

The restaurant is counter-serve and has indoor tables and outdoor seating on their patio behind the restaurant and at the picnic tables out front, by the ice cream window! The decor is beachy and easygoing, and the place itself is always clean!

The staff is especially friendly and hardworking and I have many fond memories of eating here with my family as a kid.

JT’s offers New England seafood classics, like hot or cold lobster rolls, clam chowder, and many fried plates. They also provide healthier options like grilled salmon, their tuna poke bowl, and many salads and wraps.

I personally recommend trying the lump crab sandwich or fish and chips. However, if you aren’t in the mood for seafood, the burgers are also great!

Additionally, there is a large kids menu and many lunch and dinner specials offered daily.

If you have room for dessert the window in front of the restaurant offers 20+ flavors of ice cream, in addition to sundaes, classic soft serve flavors, frappes, and frozen yogurt. Some of the ice cream flavors are incredibly unique, like campfire s’mores and peanut butter pie.

Your furry friends are also welcome outside JT’s, so don’t forget to grab them a scoop of vanilla!

JT’s also has local beers on tap, like Cape Cod Beer and Devils Purse–and don’t forget their refreshing housemade sangria!

If you want a casual restaurant great for larger groups or families, JT’s is the place to go! Lastly, if you pay with cash here, you get a discount!

4. Stone L’Oven Pizza Co.

Stone L’Oven Pizza Co. has some of the best pizzas on the Cape. Open Tuesday through Sunday from 4-9 pm, Stone L’Oven is a modern, slightly up-scale pizza joint with plenty of booths and a gorgeous bar well-stocked with beers and cocktail options, as well as a TV for anyone trying to catch the game.

Stone L’Oven Pizza Co.

The environment is very warm and upbeat, and is genuinely welcoming to children, who are even encouraged to interact with pizza chefs as they craft the dough!

Their hand-tossed pies are made with fresh ingredients like aged mozzarella, homemade tomato sauce, and housemade dough. Unique pizzas like the sweet potato bacon with balsamic or the scallop and bacon are great choices for anyone feeling adventurous.

The restaurant also prides itself on using fresh veggies and meats to top its pizzas, and you can BYO pizza if you’d like to create your own masterpiece.

However, if you aren’t craving a pie, their menu is quite extensive. For a starter, their wings are delicious and crispy. I usually prefer the buffalo, but their lemon-pepper parmesan is known to be their specialty.

They offer many kinds of pasta from lasagna to chicken alfredo for entrees in addition to sandwiches, paninis, and wraps. The chicken Caesar wrap and turkey artichoke panini are some of my favorites. If you want something light, there is a substantial salad menu with choices like spinach and gorgonzola or the classic Greek salad.

Lastly, they have a great kids’ menu!

If you don’t feel like dining in, Stone L’Oven Pizza Co. does offer take-out and you can even order online!

5. Cobie’s

Cobie’s is another casual spot ideal for families or other groups craving classic seafood fare. Located off of 6A and the Cape Cod Rail Trail, Cobie’s is open from 11:30 am to 7:30 pm, making this place great for lunch or an early dinner!

Cobie’s

As a counter-serve restaurant, Cobie’s is seat-your-self at any of their outdoor tables along their covered porch. You may have to wait in line to order, but the staff is always accommodating and friendly!

If you want to start your meal with a drink, beer, wine, and hard seltzers are provided. The food menu at Cobie’s features every fried seafood platter imaginable along with many cold rolls and a hot lobster roll option.

I tend to order fish and chips or a cheeseburger if I’m not in the seafood mood. However, there are healthier alternatives like salads, wraps, and veggie burgers. There is also clam chowder and chili, both of which can be served in a bread bowl if desired.

Furthermore, there are daily specials, usually featuring some sort of grilled fish dinner such as salmon or mahi mahi.

As a very family-friendly spot, the kid’s menu has plenty of choices too!

Now to tackle the dessert–Cobie’s was always the spot that prompted the most excitement from me as it kid when it came to ice cream. Not only because they had (and continue to have) over 24 soft-serve flavors and a variety of hard ice creams, but also because you can get your scoop served in a small plastic baseball cap.

To the adults out there, which I suppose I am now too, this might seem insignificant, but as a child, this made the experience incredibly special–knowing that every time we ate at Cobie’s I would get to add a new cap to my collection.

In fact, I still have my entire stack of every MLB team cap I attained over the years.

The last time I ate at Cobie’s it was extremely heartwarming to see young kids still ordering ice cream the same way I used to, baseball caps and all.

What’s more is that Cobie’s offers sundaes, shakes, and ‘extreme’ smoothies if you want a more refreshing, light dessert.

Important to note though is that the ice cream window at Cobie’s is cash only, while the regular food window does take debit and credit cards.

Overall, Cobie’s is a Brewster staple for locals and tourists looking for a fun and yummy food-filled experience that always remains consistent!

6. The Kitchen Cafe Brewster

The Kitchen Cafe Brewster is a newer spot that has quickly proven itself to have delicious food in a restaurant filled with a modern, cozy ambiance. As a counter order and seat-yourself spot, the cafe serves breakfast and lunch and has recently started serving dinner on Friday and Saturday.

The Kitchen Cafe Brewster

The restaurant has seating inside and outside on their terrace. I personally recommend sitting outside if the weather suits it, as the atmosphere is incredibly relaxing and warm!

The full espresso bar provides amazing lattes and other yummy caffeinated beverages to accompany your meal or just for an afternoon pick-me-up.

Looking at the food menu, Huveos rancheros is one of my favorite breakfasts, and Kitchen Cafe does such a flavorsome tasty take on the dish. Either of the avocado toasts (bacon and goat cheese or sundried tomato) are fresh and hearty choices.

If you’re craving a sweet plate for breakfast, the Belgian waffle is delectable and airy.

For lunch, there is an assortment of sandwiches, salads, and wraps.  While the grilled chicken avocado wrap is my go-to order, the Sorento salad is also garden-fresh and filled with flavor.

Additionally, the cafe has daily specials, usually featuring some sort of seafood dish in my experience. There are also plenty of choices for kids, like chicken tenders, grilled cheese, and mozzarella sticks!

I would be sure to check The Kitchen Cafe Brewster’s social media to see their hours and seating availability. This is especially true for dinner, of which the featured menu items are posted on Instagram and Facebook.

You can also order takeout!

7. Freeman’s Grill

Freeman’s Grill is a hidden gem located at the Captain’s Golf Course in Brewster.

I call it a hidden gem because many non-golfers are unaware that the restaurant is open to everyone! Open daily from 8 am to 5 pm and 8 am to 7 pm on the weekends, Freeman’s is a lovely spot for breakfast, lunch, or an early dinner!

Freeman’s Grill

The environment is modern and casual with a gorgeous bar, featuring TVs for anyone who wants to watch another sport besides the golf going on just outside (though who am I to say golf won’t be on the TV?).

The restaurant is quite spacious, with many sit-down tables as well as high tops. There is additional seating outside on the patio, which has gorgeous views of the course.

The smiling staff at Freeman’s is some of the friendliest I’ve encountered, including the managers and owner, who are known to check personally on tables and make sure diners are enjoying their experience.

The service is overall, warm, attentive, and personable.

The food at Freeman’s is very classic American with Cape Cod flare. For breakfast, the breakfast sandwiches are rave-worthy as well as the omelets.

Freeman’s is also great if you crave a bloody mary or mimosa with your brunch! For lunch or dinner, the smash burgers are a huge hit and the chicken wings are crispy and delicious, with unique sauce flavors like house hot honey and chipotle lime bbq.

The pulled pork burrito is another unique menu item that is filled with flavor and tender meat. The restaurant also offers dinner specials, so keep an eye out on their social media for those!

And there is even a Grab-n-go menu for anyone looking for something on their way out or to enjoy while they golf, or just for anyone passing through!

Whether you’re looking for a casual beer and appetizer after a round of golf or a sit-down lunch, Freeman’s is truly the spot to go–and the amazing food is only enhanced by the wonderful staff!

8. The Island Blue Crab

The Island Blue Crab is another American-style eatery, located off of 6A in Brewster. The restaurant is owned and operated by hardworking husband and wife, Chef Edgar and Blanca.

The Island Blue Crab

The atmosphere at Island Blue Crab is warm and casual, with diverse, eclectic decor, and plenty of seating. There are regular tables, high tops near the bar, bar seating by the TVs, and outdoor seating on their gorgeous deck.

The bar is a great place to sit to have a casual meal and enjoy a craft cocktail. There are even nightly specialty cocktails listed on their specials menu!

The changing, seasonal menu at Blue Crab is extensive, offering everything from seafood favorites like clam chowder and lobster ravioli, to their fried platters like fish and chips!

The blackened salmon is a personal favorite of mine and is topped with a delicious fruit salsa. The menu also has varying preparations of chicken, beef, and veal. The jerk chicken is a favorite of mine, as well as the marinated steak tips!

The menu also has unique burger choices, like their Osterville Burger which is topped with a fried oyster and bacon.

Furthermore, there is a kid’s menu and the restaurant is very family-friendly and accommodating to larger parties. The staff is also incredibly professional and attentive to their tables.

The Island Blue Crab does not take reservations, so plan your trip accordingly!

9. Chillingsworth Restaurant

Chillingsworth is somewhat of an institution when it comes to dining in Brewster.

The restaurant is located within the historic Chillingsworth Foster Estate and offers a variety of dining experiences accompanied by a warm and knowledgeable staff.

Chillingsworth Restaurant

Open for dinner Wednesday through Saturday, the formal dining room at Chillingsworth offers upscale French-inspired cuisine with New England flare.

The atmosphere is elegant, old-fashioned, and very much a white-table-cloth environment. The dining room menu is multi-course and has a la carte choices along with an extensive wine list.

I highly recommend the escargots or foie gras, both of which are mouthwatering and add to the French dining experience. I also prompt you to try the lobster pasta, which is filled with hunks of fresh lobster and a flavorsome sauce.

The roasted duck breast with fig balsamic sauce is another unique and delicious entree. For dessert, I suggest trying the eclair or trio of creme brulees.

Lastly, if you eat in the dining room, make sure to keep an eye out for the many antiques throughout, as they are sometimes for sale!

Look to the greenhouse at Chilingsworth and you’ll find Chili’s Bistro & Bar, perfect for any patrons wanting a more casual dining experience. The bistro offers outdoor and bar seating with lighter, contemporary cuisine and ice-cold cocktails to boot.

The menu is a la carte and does give choices for modified items from the dining room menu in addition to many small plates from truffle mac and cheese to panko-fried crispy oysters.

I would categorize Chillingsworth as a more adult-dining eatery, but I have seen children eating here and they always appear well-accommodated, however, I would say that there are definitely more menu options for kids at the Bistro.

Be sure to make a reservation at Chillingsworth if you want to be sure you get a table!

10. Cafe Alfresco

Cafe Alfresco has been a popular breakfast and lunch destination for years. Located in Lemon Tree Village among many boutique stores, Cafe Alfresco is open daily from 8 am to 3 pm, offering fresh and healthy cuisine.

Cafe Alfresco

For breakfast, the buttermilk pancakes are perfectly fluffy and can be filled with blueberries, strawberries, or chocolate chips. The breakfast sandwiches are also delicious and can be served on my favorite–the Portuguese roll.

If you want a lighter start to your day, there is a smoothie and smoothie-bowl menu, with a selection of acai bowls. You can also try their avocado toast, which is topped with a slightly spicy arugula salad. If you’re on the go, grab one of Cafe Alfresco’s bagels, homemade muffins, or pastries to enjoy with your coffee!

Looking forward to lunch, you can choose between their wide variety of salads, sandwiches, and paninis, all of which are made with natural, quality ingredients.

My all-time favorite is the Calabrian panini, which packs a punch with its hot peppers and is served on Parmesan Foccacia bread. I have also tried the turkey club and Cubano sandwiches–both were very tasty.

There are vegetarian alternatives, like the falafel wrap and portobello mushroom wrap. Cafe Alfresco also has daily specials and a freshly made soup of the day.

Moreover, there is a kid’s menu and the place is very family-friendly. I have many memories of my parents taking us to eat here after going to the toy shop located in the village!

Additionally, Alfresco has seating inside its modern, chic-styled cafe, whose walls are adorned with photographs and paintings from local artists. There are also outdoor tables along their patio, which have umbrellas for extra shade.

Stop by Cafe Alfresco on your drive down historic 6A, or if you need a quick lunch break during your shopping!

11. Brewster Inn & Chowder House

The historic Brewster Inn & Chowder House is a spot well-known to locals and vacationers alike. The restaurant is perfect for families and can accommodate larger groups–there is seating inside at their antique bar and at tables, as well as outside on their patio.

Brewster Inn & Chowder House

Inside, you’ll find an ‘Old Cape’ ambiance with a quiet, warm feel that allows customers to engage in good conversation without the loud hustle and bustle of some of the livelier restaurants. The candles on the tables also add to the cozy atmosphere.

The Chowder House is open daily for lunch and dinner, offering a special menu for both occasions. The clam chowder is rich and creamy and the French onion soup is one of the best.

If you want an appetizer that isn’t soup, the stuffed mushroom caps and shrimp cocktail are among their classic offerings.

For lunch, I recommend trying the roast beef wrap or fish sandwich! For dinner, the baked scrod is a favorite, as well as the chicken marsala.

Overall, Brewster Inn & Chowder House is a great stop for a casual, leisurely meal, often described as “like going back to Grandma’s House” for a meal.

Don’t forget to call ahead or check social media to see if they’re offering their prime rib dinner special!
