John Kerry denounces Young amendment

Senator John Kerry has come out against the Young amendment, political analyst Jon Keller reported late this afternoon on WBZ4 Boston, Channel 4.

"The Young amendment is an insult to Americans who care about good government," Kerry said in a statement to WBZ4. "I oppose this backdoor amendment."

Keller also reported that Maine Senator Olympia Snowe is working toward some form of compromise on the amendment, according to a Snowe aide.

Kerrys statement in sharp contrast to Kennedy's

According to today's Cape Cod Times, Kerry's bluntly stated opposition yesterday stood in contrast to U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy, a staunch critic of the Cape Wind proposal. He defended the amendment yesterday.

"Sen. Kennedy hopes we have a national policy in place soon,'' said Melissa Wagoner, a Kennedy spokeswoman. ''But in the interim, he feels it's understandable why members of the committee would want to look at navigational safety issues that accompany these kinds of projects." See the article here.
