Sandwich pedestrian struck; Teen cyclist injured in Dennis accident

SANDWICH - A pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a car in Sandwich just before 6:30 PM. Reports say the crash happened in front of the Dunkin' Donuts on Route 6A. 23-year old Sean McGrath of East Sandwich was taken to the Henry T. Wing School to meet a Medflight helicopter for a transfer to Boston Medical Center. Sandwich Police are investigating the crash and say charges will likely not be filed against the driver 74-year old Helen Gilcrist of Centerville.

dennis100907bSOUTH DENNIS - A 14-year-old male bicyclist was struck by a Ford van around 1:40 p.m. Tuesday on Route 134 in South Dennis, just north of the Route 6 overpass. Adam Bitahai of Dennis suffered severe injuries with multiple trauma and was transported by Dennis ambulance to Barnstable Municipal Airport for an air evacuation to Boston.

Traffic along Route 134 northbound and exit 9B was shut down for a time so investigators could reconstruct the crash. The van driver was identified as 45-year old Ronald Marshal of Harwich. Investigators believe Bitahai turned into the path of the van and no charges are expected. Officials also said Bitahai was not wearing a helmet . (Story and photos by Kevin Morley).
