Police capture child rapist

Richard Cura, 40, arrested on two counts of Rape of a Child Thursday.

WEST YARMOUTH - On Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 3:51 p.m., members of the Yarmouth and Barnstable Police Departments arrived at room 39 at the Yarmouth Gardens Motel on Route 28 in West Yarmouth in an attempt to serve two arrest warrants obtained by the Barnstable Police Department based on an investigation of sexual assault that occurred in Barnstable.

The team of police officers located the suspect, Richard Cura, 40,  inside the room and placed him under arrest.  He was initially transported to Yarmouth Police Headquarters in West Yarmouth and subsequently transferred to the custody of the Barnstable Police Department.

Cura has been charged with two counts of Rape of a Child. The charges stem from an alleged incident that occurred last Saturday in which Cura was accused of raping two 7-year-old girls in one of the girls' home where Cura rented a room.

He is scheduled for arraignment in the Barnstable District Court Friday morning.
