Wood from work van smashes through windshield on 6 in Sandwich

Driver of vehicle struck by wood escapes injury

   Brian Spellman examines a 1' x 12' piece of wood that shattered and lodged in the windshield of his company work van on Route 6 in Sandwich Monday morning.

SANDWICH - Around 9:30 a.m., Monday morning, pieces of wood fell off a work van owned by Emmanuel Construction.  One of the pieces struck and shattered the windshield of another vehicle, lodging itself in the glass. 

The vehicle struck by the flying piece of wood was a work van driven by Brian Spellman.  Spellman and the driver of the Emmanuel Construction van were both traveling on Route 6 westbound between Exits 3 and 4 when the incident occurred.

Spellman escaped injury.

State Police at the scene confirmed that charges will be filed against the driver of the Emmanuel Construction van. At right, Emmanuel Construction workers secure items to the roof of the van.
