Three new on Cape support groups beginning in April in Eastham, Falmouth and Sandwich

Healing Our Hearts, Bereavement Support Group to begin April 8th in Falmouth

The loss of a spouse/partner presents special challenges. Join us for a free, confidential group at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 270 Gifford Street in Falmouth.  The group meets  Thursdays from 10am to 11:30am, beginning April 8, 2010.

The loss of a loved spouse or partner presents special challenges and forever changes us.  Join us for this free, confidential, eight week group to share memories and experiences, give and receive support, and exchange skills for coping with life after loss. 

This group, available to anyone who has lost a spouse or partner, will be facilitated by Jackie Powers, MSW, LCSW, Beacon Hospice Bereavement Coordinator.

Surviving Normal, book study support group for Alzheimer's caretakers starts in April in Sandwich and Eastham

Two new book study support groups will begin in mid-April.  On Tuesday, April 13, 2010,  Surviving Normal, a book study  support group for Alzheimer’s caretakers will begin at the Sandwich Library in Sandwich. The group will meet at the library Tuesdays at 2:30pm through June 15, 2010.

A second Surviving Normal group begins the following day, April 14, 2010 in Eastham at the Eastham Senior Center. That group will meet Wednesdays at 5:30pm through June 2, 2010. 

Surviving Normal is an 8-week support group for those who face the difficult challenges of caring for a loved ones who have Alzheimer’s disease. 

There is no fee to attend this group, which is open to the Cape Community. 

The group will be based on the book  Surviving Normal, by Cape Cod resident Sonja Brewer.

Surviving Normal is the seven year chronicle of Ms. Brewer’s experience caretaking a spouse with Alzheimer’s.  Ms. Brewer will attend the first session of each group to share her experience as caretaker and author.  The group will provide support and information to help those who care for others. 

Both groups will be facilitated by Jackie Powers, MSW, LCSW, Bereavement Coordinator for Beacon Hospice’s Harbors of Hope Program.
