Three animal-related articles at November 8th special Town Meeting in Ptown

Three animal welfare articles included in Monday night meeting

On Monday evening, November 8, 2010, residents of Provincetown will consider 19 articles during a special Town Meeting. Of those articles, three concern animal welfare.

Article 9 is a general bylaw amendment for 13-2-7-8 Unlawful Restraint of Dogs. It addresses the tethering of dogs outdoors for more than 3 hours and associated fines for exceeding the limit.

Article 10 is also a general bylaw amendment for 13-2-7-9 Provincetown Dog Park Rules and Regulations. The article proposes additions to the current rules and regulations governing visitors, both human and canine, to the park.

Finally, Article 11 is a general bylaw amendment for 13-2-7-12 Animals Left Unattended in Motor Vehicles. The amendment proposes fines for people who leave their animals unattended in motor vehicles under circumstances that may cause harm and/or death to the animal. It also gives the town animal control officer and police officers more authority to remove the animal from the vehicle under such circumstances.

The special Town Meeting will be held at the Veterans Memorial Elementary School at 2 Mayflower Lane from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the multi-purpose room.
