Here’s hoping everyone is doing well and staying healthy as we approach the start of spring! March is such a hopeful time, as spring comes to Cape Cod! There’s a lot to do this weekend!

On Friday March 9:

The Cape Cod Kidz What to do on the Weekend Guide by Christine Chapman

  • Critter Capers is a consistently reliable good time for kids. Head out to Green Briar Nature Center with your little ones to be part of the fun at 10:30 AM. Drop in for a half-hour visit with the naturalist and one of the nature center’s resident animals. Suitable for families with children ages 3 and up. Fee is $2 per person. Advance registration is not required. Green Briar Nature Center and Jam Kitchen in East Sandwich.

  • Toddler Town is offered from 10:30 AM - 1:00 PM: Stories and crafts at 10:30am, followed by playtime in the indoor gym. Wellfleet Public Library in Wellfleet.

  • March Madness - 7th and 8th Graders! Is proudly presented by the Bourne PTA PTA! Come hang out from 7 pm to 11 pm and have a night filled with non-stop fun, food, music, and games! We’ll have Wii Tournaments, a “Twister” room, Photo Booth, Dance, Karaoke, “BMS Idol,” and more! Plus on-going sports in the gym! $10.00 will cover food, drinks and activities. Don’t miss what is sure to become a favorite BMS event! Tickets go on sale during lunches beginning March 7th. All school rules apply.   • If you’re into musicals, the Harwich Junior Theatre continues to provide incredible programming! HJT presents "Big River" the Musical at 7:30 PM at Harwich Junior Theatre in Harwich.

On Saturday, March 10:

  • Nature Tales10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Cozy up in the nature center at Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary for a special story and color a picture to take home. You'll learn about the wildlife that thrives here on Cape Cod and throughout the world. Best for families with children up to age 8. Wellfeet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary in Wellfleet.

  • Portraiture for Children 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM at Danton Studio in South Dennis. Portraits are a wonderful way for kids (and adults) to reflect on themselves. This class is designed for children who are interested in learning about the fine arts and working on art skills, yet at the same time learning more about themselves. Ms. O'Neill has been teaching children to do self-portraits for years. She believes that it is important for kids to draw themselves, work through any challenges and see their progress themselves. This class will involve painting on canvas panels with acrylics, which will be provided. Offered as a two class session on March 3 and 10th from 9:30 - 11AM.   • 2012 Cape Cod St. Patrick's Parade 11:00 AM. Mark your calendars, get your green on and gather your friends! The 7th annual Cape Cod St. Patrick’s Parade will take place on Saturday, March 10. The parade will step off at 11 AM on Route 28 (at School Street) in Dennis and proceed over the Bass River Bridge into Yarmouth, ending at Forest Road. Now one of the largest and most anticipated offseason occasions on the Cape, the parade drew upwards of 30,000 spectators from all over the country last year. This year’s event, themed “The Arts of Ireland”, will feature marching bands from all over New England, colorful floats created by local companies, antique cars, special guests and plenty of family friendly entertainment.   • Live Animal Story Time10:30 AM - 11:00 AM. Drop by and join a naturalist for a lively story of "Peter Rabbit" and friends and a visit with one of the animals featured in the day's story. Suitable for families with children ages 3 and up. Advance registration is not required. It’s a favorite for all young children. At The Green Briar Nature Center in East Sandwich.

  • Waldorf School Open House 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM. It’s important to understand what the various educational options and models look like and to speak to educators and observe their space and understand their methodologies.   • A Cape Cod Therapy Dog Program: The "Doggie" Elves of Saint Patrick's Day!01:00 PM - 02:00 PM On Saturday, March 10 at 1 pm the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History will present A Cape Cod Therapy Dog Program – The “Doggie” Elves of Saint Patrick’s Day! This program is free with Museum admission. Enjoy another Cape Cod Therapy Dog visit with Gina Hayes that will delight you with a special bow to Saint Patrick’s Day with fun-filled tricks and ‘wearing of the green. Help our dog friends find the hidden treats in the Irish green boxes! Can you find the dog bone before they do? Nose games and more!   • Teen Workshop on Book Trailers 2:00 PM. The Brewster Ladies’ Library is holding a workshop on making book trailers on March 10 at 2:00 p.m. Book trailers are like movie trailers for books – brief video clips to promote the stories – but unlike movie trailers, are often made by fans. See some cool examples and learn everything you need to make your own! Ages 10 and up. Snacks will be served. Admission is free, and all teens are welcome to attend. Brewster Ladies' Library in Brewster.

  • Public Skate is always a fun time. 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center in Hyannis.

  • The 8th Annual Firefighter Chili Challenge to Benefit MDA is back from 12:00 PM - 04:00 PM at the Resort and Conference Center at Hyannis in Hyannis. 18 teams of Massachusetts Fire Departments cooking up their FINEST Chili to compete for the coveted Chef's Cup Award! Other Prizes to include People's favorite, voted on by our guests, Hottest, and Best Booth Design! Tickets are $15 at the door with kids under 13 free!
