Of three, design #1 made the cut. YPD photo. The votes are in and children from Yarmouth's three elementary schools have helped the Yarmouth police choose a new design for the department's new cruisers this week.

A Yarmouth Police Task Force created several designs that convey the department's "Excellence in Policing" initiative and kids at the Marguerite E. Small, Station Avenue and Laurence P. MacArthur Elementary Schools were asked to pick their favorite.

Last week, the children considered the options and chose the design on right.

The new cruisers, according to a Yarmouth police release, are the next generation of police vehicles. The Police Interceptors, manufactured by the Ford Motor Company, will be phased in over the next three years beginning in June. They feature fuel efficient V6 engines and offer improved systems and safety for officers.

According to Deputy Chief Steven Xiarhos, officers will return to the schools when the new cruisers arrive and give the children the opportunity to check them out and sit inside.
