"Stagestruck: Confessions from Summer Stock" premieres on WGBH on Thursday, July 12

Produced, directed and edited by local filmmaker Liz Argo

"Stagestruck: Confessions from Summer Stock" will premiere on WGBH (Channel 2)  on Thursday, July 12 at 9 p.m. The documentary offers backstage access to the colorful world of America's first summer stock theater "in-the-round", the Orleans Arena Theatre on Cape Cod between 1950 and 1976. "Stagestruck" features a rare interview with Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

Argo began work on "Stagestruck" in 2002.  The documentary pays homage to Orleans Arena Theatre founders Gordon and Betsy Argo.  More than 50 actors re-enacted scenes for the film at the Academy Playhouse in Orleans which stands on the grounds of the old Orleans Arena Theatre.

Argo's film will air on 90 public television stations across the country this summer. It is also available for purchase on DVD here.

A reception and viewing of "Stagestruck" will be held at the Cape Cod Media Center at 17 Shad Hole Road in Dennisport on Thursday, July 12 at 8 p.m.
