Man with home in West Harwich charged with child pornography possession

Defendant alleged to have possessed child porn between July and November 2008

United States Attorney Carmen Ortiz's Office reported yesterday that a man with homes in Charlestown and West Harwich has been charged with possession of child pornography.

Thomas J. Richardson, 67, was charged last week in a sealed indictment with possessing "materials containing visual depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct".

Richardson, known as "GreatG", is alleged to have possessed these materials between July and November 2008. The indictment was unsealed Friday after Richardson was arrested in West Harwich. He appeared in court Friday and was released with an electronic monitoring device.

If convicted, Richardson could serve up to ten years in prison followed by a minimum of five years--up to a lifetime--of supervised release, according to US Attorney Ortiz's office. He may also be subject to a $250,000 fine.

Richardson's case will be tried by Assistant US Attorney Michael Yoon of US Attorney Ortiz's Major Crimes Unit and Trial Attorney Bonnie Kane of the Department of Justice's Child Exploitation & Obscenity Section. welcomes thoughtful comments and the varied opinions of our readers.
