Coast Guard medevacs 13-year-old 100 miles off Chatham Monday

Captain's son injured hand aboard the Helen Louise

Coast Guard rescue crews came to the aid of an injured 13-year-old early Monday morning, 100 miles east of Chatham.  Around 3:35 a.m., Coast Guard watchstanders received a call from the crew of the Helen Louise, an 82-foot fishing vessel out of Aurora, NC, regarding an injured 13-year-old. The boy had sustained a laceration to his hand and required medical treatment, according to the USCG.

An Air Station Cape Cod MH-60 Jayhawk crew hoisted the boy and his father from the vessel. They were then transported to Massachusetts General Hospital.
