At their most recent dinner meeting at the Four Points by Sheraton in Eastham, the Chatham-Nauset Lions Club donated $1,000 to the Homeless Prevention Council.

The $1,000 check, presented to Maureen Linehan by Chatham-Nauset Lions Club President Bernie Cropsey, will benefit the non-profit's "Adopt-a-Family" program.

Last year, the "Adopt-a-Family" program, coordinated by Linehan, made Christmas wishes come true for roughly 300 children in 130 families on the Lower and Outer Cape. According to the Homeless Prevention Council website, the organization's case managers work with local schools and churches to identify families in need.

Client information remains confidential, but individuals, organizations and businesses that participate in the annual program are given the first names of the children, their ages and their wish lists. Donors in turn purchase gifts, toys, clothing and winter coats for the kids or donate money to the program and case managers do the shopping.

The end result is a happy holiday for children who have gifts to unwrap and warm coats to wear during the winter.
