Get ready to start stuffing cruisers, trucks & buses

Annual holiday toy collections under way

All across the Cape, folks are gathering together to get stuffing--cruisers and trucks and buses that is for Toys for Tots and other local toy drives. All local police and fire departments are participating and serving as drop locations for donations.

Now through Thursday, December 12, head over to the Sandwich Public Library between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. for some holiday fun thanks to the Sandwich Professional Firefighters. Meet Santa and his elf, ride the muster truck and share some cookies and hot cocoa by the fire. There will be free photos of children with Santa taken by 13 Snaps Photography. Members of the Sandwich Professional Firefighters will be there to collect new, unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots.

On Saturday, December 14 in Provicetown, Provincetown police will be stuffing a cruiser full of toys from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of Stop & Shop on Shank Painter Road. All donations will go to Toys for Tots and will benefit families with children on Cape Cod.

In Wareham on Saturday, December 14, Wareham police are partnering with Walmart and Target to stuff-a-cruiser at each of those locations between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Toys collected during this 5th annual Stuff-a-Cruiser Toy Drive will be given to the Dick Melloni Youth Foundation Christmas Toy Drive.  The foundation will then distribute the toys to children in Wareham and surrounding areas. Stop by either location with your new and unwrapped toys and say hello to Wareham officers and to Santa who will be at Target.

The Wellfleet Police Department reminds the public that Saturday, December 14 is the last day to donate new, unwrapped toys for the annual Police Stuff-A-Bus Challenge. There are several drop-off locations in the towns of the Outer Cape including Provincetown: Provincetown Police Station, Stop & Shop, Veterans Memorial Community Center, Seamens Bank Conwell Lumber and Lands End Marine Supply; Truro: Seamens Bank Truro Public Safety Building, Truro Post Office, North Truro Post Office, Truro Public Library, Savory and Sweet Escape; Wellfleet: Wellfleet Marketplace, South Wellfleet General Store, Seamens Bank, Wellfleet Post Office, Dunkin' Donuts, Wellfleet Police Station, Wellfleet Fire Station and Wellfleet Cinemas; Eastham: Eastham Police Station.

The 18th annual WXTK Stuff-A-Bus will begin at 6 a.m. on Friday, December 13 at Toys 'R Us in Hyannis on Route 132 and will continue through Sunday, December 15. WXTK will broadcast live from the Toys 'R Us parking lot and according to the station's site, all toys collected during the Toys for Tots program will stay here on the Cape. Don't miss the parade of police and fire vehicles on Sunday. Last year's event was a big success.  See Britt Crosby's great photos of the 2012 parade on CapeCodFD.com here.
