Dennis sends out annual census forms

Residents encouraged to complete and return form to town clerk

The Town of Dennis announced Wednesday that the 2014 annual census forms are in the mail. Residents are encouraged to complete the form and return it to the town clerk.

According to a notice from the town, some of the return envelopes bear the wrong address. Completed census forms should be returned to:

Dennis Town Clerk
PO Box 2060
South Dennis, MA 02660

The annual census form will also include a dog license application for those who need to license a dog or renew a license.

According to the town's website, the census is taken each year under a state statute. The information in the census is used to calculate federal and state funding for the town. Police, fire and other town departments often refer to the Dennis street list compiled from the census.

The town clerk's office reminds citizens that failure to complete and return the census may jeopardize voting status. According to the town clerk's office, the population of Dennis in 2013 was 13,708. Of that number, 10,875 residents are active voters.

The town's annual census is separate from the Federal Census which is taken every 10 years. The next Federal Census will be taken in 2020.
