Last month, the Sandwich Council on Aging announced that Joan Foley has been named the Sandwich COA Senior Citizen of the Year. Foley, according to a release from the Sandwich COA, has been volunteering as a receptionist for more than 20 years.

She also assists the COA with social programs and anything else asked of her.  In addition to her work at the COA, Foley volunteers with hospice at the McCarthy Care Center and at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, both in Sandwich, and has done so for several years.

Of Foley, some of the people who nominated her said:

  • she is "always spreading sunshine with her smile"
  • she is "the most dedicated volunteer we know"
  • she is known for her "good humor and warm hugs"

"[Joan] is a positive role model and demonstrates community spirit and dedication to serving others," said the Sandwich COA release.

The Sandwich Council on Aging is at 270 Quaker Meetinghouse Road in E. Sandwich, 508-888-4737. The COA provides an extensive selection of services and programs for Sandwich residents 60+.
