O'Hern indicted on distribution and possession of child pornography

Police raided semi-retired pediatrician's Mashpee condo in June

Dr. Daniel J. O'Hern of Mashpee, a semi-retired pediatrician, was indicted Thursday on charges of distribution and possession of child pornography.  O'Hern, 64, was been in custody since his arrest in June. In May, according to a release from US Attorney Carmen Ortiz's Office, authorities discovered that O'Hern was using online file sharing programs to post child pornography.

In June, authorities raided O'Hern's Quashnet Valley condominium and seized several computers, external hard drives, DVDs and other media storages devices.  According to the affidavit, officials discovered several images of "children being sexually exploited" including victims described as "pubescent minor females".

O'Hern practiced medicine in Middleton, New York with Dunning Road Pediatrics and Crystal Run Healthcare.

If convicted on child pornography distribution charges, O'Hern faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, with a minimum mandatory sentence of five years. On the charges of possession, O'Hern faces a maximum sentence of 10 years. Both charges mandate a lifetime of supervised release, according to the US Attorney's release.
