The Brewster Board of Selectmen will hold a public hearing on Monday, April 6 at 7 p.m. at the Brewster Town Hall. The purpose of the public meeting is to review proposed parking regulations for the roadways leading to the town's beaches and landings.
The proposed regulation changes were brought about by the number of vehicles, boats and trailers parked along the town's roads during the summer months. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, this increase in parking poses a hazard to drivers and pedestrians and a potential impediment for emergency responders headed to the beach or water.
The new regulations are intended to keep the public safe, according to selectmen.
Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, parking will be prohibited on both the pavement and shoulder of several roadways including Paines Creek Road, Robbins Hill Road, Saints Landing Road, Breakwater Road, Point of Rocks Road, Foster Road, Ellis Landing Road, Linnell Landing Road, Crosby Lane, Drake Way, Hillbourne Terrace, Crowell's Bog Road, Fisherman's Landing Road, Slough Road, Run Hill Road and Old Red Top Road. Drivers who disregard a no parking notice will be issued a ticket and a fine of $30, payable to the town. Should the vehicle not be removed within four hours of the issuance of the ticket, the officer will have the authority to have the vehicle towed should he believe it poses a hazard. Tickets may be disputed before the Town Clerk, who is also the appointed Parking Clerk for the town.
