It's official: Yarmouth has a new fire chief

Tuesday night, in a unanimous vote, Yarmouth selectmen appointed Philip Simonian Yarmouth Fire Chief. Chief Simonian has been the acting chief for the past two years replacing Chief Michael Walker who went on leave.

Prior to becoming acting chief, he was the department's deputy fire chief.

According to a Yarmouth Fire Department release, Chief Simonian joined the department in 1983 and since that time, has held every rank. This first job with the department was at 16 as a volunteer firefighter.

As chief, he oversees three stations in town, YFD Headquarters in South Yarmouth and stations in Yarmouth Port and West Yarmouth.

Chief Simonian lives in South Yarmouth with his wife Laurie and their daughters Emily and Jessica.
