Construction for the municipal water project in Eastham is progressing through town. On Monday, October 5, work will begin on Route 6.
The Route 6 portion of the project will start near the Eastham/Wellfleet town line moving towards Aspinet Road.
Water main installation will begin on the southbound side of Route 6. During work hours (Monday-Saturday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.), one lane in each direction will be open to motorists.
The speed limit in the work zone will be reduced to 30 mph, according to Eastham police. Motorists should expect delays.
Water project-related work is continuing in other parts of Eastham as well. According to police, water main construction on Old Orchard Road is wrapping up and crews are onto Brackett Road towards Nauset Road. A different crew is working on Nauset Road south of the Council on Aging, moving towards Doane Road.
The extensive project began in July. Hyannis-based Environmental Partners was chosen as the engineering firm and Sout Dennis-based CC Construction was contracted to do the work.
According to the town's dedicated water project website, the new system will include tow well fields, a 135' storage tank with a 750,000 gallon capacity and 45 miles of pipe. To learn more about the project, visit the website here.
