Cape Cod towns to host ceremonies on Sunday

Several Cape Cod towns will host 9/11 memorial ceremonies this weekend, beginning with a service on Cape Cod Community College on Friday. Sunday, September 11, marks the 15th anniversary of the tragedy.

Friday, September 9

Students, faculty and staff to gather on the library patio at Cape Cod Community College at 8:30 a.m. The remembrance begins at 8:45 a.m. Cape Cod Community College President Cox and other members of the community to speak. The West Barnstable Fire Department will participate in the ceremony. The college is at 2240 Iyannough Road in West Barnstable.

Sunday, September 11

The Yarmouth Fire Department will unveil their new 9/11 Memorial Site during a dedication ceremony at 9:30 a.m. at Yarmouth Fire Station #3 at 520 Buck Island Road in West Yarmouth. The unveiling and dedication will be followed by the annual 9/11 Memorial Service at 9:58 a.m.

The Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire Department will host a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony and dedication of WTC steel at 9:45 a.m. at C-O-MM Fire Station #1, 1875 Falmouth Road in Centerville. The public is invited to attend. Light refreshments will be served.

The Wellfleet Fire and Police Departments will host a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Wellfleet Fire Station at 10 Lawrence Road in Wellfleet. Fire and police department staff will gather in front of the fire station at 9:45 a.m. The public is invited to attend the ceremony. Personnel will be available to assist those wishing to tour the fire station after the ceremony. 

Eastham Police Chief Edward Kulhawik and Eastham Fire Chief Kent Farrenkopf ask residents and visitors to join them for a 9/11 ceremony in front of the Eastham Fire Department at 10 a.m. Following the ceremony, tours of both the police and fire department facilities will be available. Coffee and light pastries will be offered at both facilities.The Eastham Fire Station is at 2520 State Highway (Route 6) in Eastham. 

The Hyannis Fire Deparment will host a 9/11 memorial service at 10 a.m. the Hyannis Fire Station at 95 High School Road in Hyannis. Light refreshments will follow.

The Provincetown Fire and Police Departments will hold a ceremony on Shankpainter Road directly between the stations at 11 a.m. Provincetown police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel and representatives from the United States Coast Guard will participate in the ceremony. The public is cordially invited to attend.

The Brewster Fire Department will host their annual 9/11 remembrance ceremony at 1 p.m. at the Brewster Fire Station at 1657 Main Street in Brewster. The Brewster Police Department and the Orleans Fire and Police Departments will also participate in the ceremony. Pastor William Kaliyadan of Our Lady of the Cape Church will offer the memorial invocation.

The Yarmouth Police Department will host a candlelight 9/11 Town of Yarmouth Memorial Service dedicating the new 9/11 Memorial on the grounds of the Yarmouth Police Station at One Brad Erickson Way in West Yarmouth.
