Ronald McDonald House Charities® Awards $25,000 Grant to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Cape Cod

Will upgrade facility for children with auditory challenges

Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC®) of Eastern New England recently presented a $25,000 grant to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital – Cape Cod. The funds will be used for the hospital renovations to enhance services in Spaulding’s Audiology Clinic, a Level 3 provider for the state’s universal screening initiative and the only facility on the Cape where children can receive Central Auditory Processing (CAP) Assessments. CAP Assessments evaluate the ability of the child’s brain to process auditory information and are used for school-age children with poor classroom performance, speech and language delays, and distractibility.

The audiology clinic at Spaulding Cape Cod continues to successfully make a positive impact on the rehabilitation of pediatric patients and their families. “Thanks to the support of the RMHC, our audiology clinic will even better fit the growing needs of our patients, families and staff,” said Stephanie Nadolny, Vice President of Hospital Operations. “These updates include important enhancements to the HVAC system and areas surrounding audiology which will lead to improvements during audiology testing.” The grant also helps support the creation of a “health room” that will allow families and staff access to some personal space or for family quiet time before an appointment.

“We are honored to be part of the Spaulding’s initiatives to improve health services to children and families," said Karen McEachern, executive director of the RMHC. "The modernization of the Spaulding Audiology Department on the Cape will allow more children and families to be evaluated and treated at their state of the art facility.”
