Consumer alert from Cape Light Compact

Getting phone calls from someone trying to sell you electricity?

The Cape Light Compact is reaching out to the public in response to a number of consumers expressing concern about telemarketing calls from electric suppliers.

Here are "three important things" the Compact wants consumers to know about what some may consider scams:

  • Always ask for written information on what is being offered, so you may review it without any pressure.
  • Never provide your Eversource electric account number before you have decided to sign a contract, as this would give a supplier the ability to switch your account without your consent.
  • Never commit to a price or contact over the phone.  Verbal offers may not provide you with all the terms and conditions of the contract.

If you receive a call or visit from an electricity supplier and have questions, please contact the Cape Light Compact at 508-375-6644.  They will be happy to answer your questions.
