Cape Cod's newest baroque ensemble, Courante, will present chamber music from the 17th and 18th century on Sunday, July 16, at 5:00 pm at St Andrews by the Sea, 12 Irving Ave., Hyannis Port as part of the Sunday Sunset concert series.
The musicians of Courante include Jan Elliott, recorder; David Gable, baroque violin; Molly Johnston, viola da gamba and Brittany Lord, harpsichord and organ. Dedicated to historically informed performance on period instruments, they blend their extensive and varied backgrounds with a deeply shared affinity for early music. The name Courante refers to a baroque dance, and the group aims to evoke the elegance and liveliness of dance rhythms that permeate baroque instrumental repertoire.
The program, entitled "European Union: Baroque Masters from Italy, Germany and France," will feature chamber music by Marini, Vivaldi, Marais, Albinoni, Bernardi and Bach, as well as an organ piece by Nicolaus Bruhns. Admission by donation ($20 suggested).
